My Favorite Essential Oils & Their Uses

Do you use essential oils?
If you haven’t started yet, what are you waiting for?!
If you know me or follow me on any social media, you should know that I’m very passionate about essential oils.
Not only do essential oils fill up your home with natural scents, but they can also improve your health and mood!
I diffuse so many essential oils, it would be too hard to list all of my favorites. For now, here are my top 3 essential oils and their uses.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus has purifying properties that promote clear breathing and open airways.
Some important benefits of eucalyptus oil include:
Antimicrobial properties- meaning it can help stop the spread of bacteria.
Pain relief- when applied directly to the source of pain or breathed in.
Relieve cold, flu and other respiratory illnesses.
Antibacterial properties- meaning it can kill present bacteria.
Air clarification- It makes the air around you thinner and more breathable.
Mental clarity- boosts brain function and aids stress relief.
This oil is definitely my go to! I’ll put it on any time throughout the day, however, mornings are my favorite! It definitely gives me the boost and focus I need to have a successful day.
Lavender
Lavender is another one of my absolute favorite essential oils! This oil has so many different healing properties.
This past summer, I’d spent a lot of time sitting under trees outside on the sabbath. One day, I noticed a very large cluster of bug bites on my leg. I didn’t know what kind of bites they were, but I knew they must have come from my time outside. Of course, I have a lot of over-the-counter creams that could have healed these bites, but I did some research to see which of my essential oils would help heal the bites.
After googling ‘which essential oils heal bug bites?’ I decided to try lavender! I applied a few drops directly to the affected area two times a day for two-three days and the bites disappeared! I was in awe, and that’s when I really started to trust essential oils.
Some other important benefits of lavender oil includes:
Anxiety relief
Insomnia relief
Wound healing
Antiseptic healing
Hair growth
PMS relief
Not only does lavender have great benefits alone, but it can be combined with other essential oils such as eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree and rosemary to create the ultimate healing property!
Tea Tree
Tea tree oil is such a common essential oil that has many benefits.
Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties and evidence has shown that some of its benefits include:
Healing athlete's foot
Healing ringworm
Fighting mold infestation
Fighting dandruff
Fighting insect bites
Managing psoriasis
Many products that we see in stores have tea tree oil in them, which makes them more attractive and useful for us. It’s important to note that you must read the back of the label to ensure that the essential oil is actually present in the product.
When considering food and other products, be sure to remember that the front is for your entertainment, the back is for your education!
While the purpose of different aromatherapy options serve the same purpose, it’s important to note that candles are MUCH more toxic than essential oils.
Choose Essential Oils Over Candles Because…
Candles pose a safety concern. If you want a certain aroma to permeate throughout your home while you’re not there, candles are not the safest option! You definitely can’t leave an open flame unattended for hours on end, however, with essential oils, you can leave it running and unattended all day!
Your health is at risk. Candles have toxic chemicals inside them that create indoor air pollution that can impact your health. When purchasing essential oils, you’ll be able to read the back of the box. This way, you can know exactly what you’re allowing into the air of your home.
Essential oils last all day. Candles definitely give off a strong smell when you initially light them, however, the smell often disappears as the candle runs out. With essential oils, all you have to do is replace the water and voila, you can have a brand new scent.
You’ll save money. Let’s face it, candles are SO expensive, and if you love aromatherapy, you’re probably buying a lot of them because they’re burning out quickly. With essential oils, you’ll only have to buy your diffuser one time, and then buy more essential oils as needed. TJ Maxx/Marshalls has large packs of essential oils for under $10!
The bottom line is, the benefits of essential oils supercedes candles!
If you’re someone who can’t seem to let go of candles because you love specific scents (seasonal scents, etc), don’t worry! There are plenty of themed essential oil packs that can offer this same aesthetic- without breaking your pockets and risking your health!
If you haven’t made the switch to essential oils, I’m urging you to do so. You won’t regret it!
